No side handles appear for text block in callout

I have droped a text callout on my drawing. The default text says "Drag the
side handles to change the width of the text block". No matter how long I
hover over a shape endpoint - no side handles appear.

The shape-sheet looks promising - but I am unfamiliar with the Visio
formulas and shape sheet properties - Everyone who answers this type of
question throws people to the same blog (good article but not enough detail).

My questions are:

1. What shape sheet properties govern the display of side handles on a text
callout?
2. Is there a good reference for the shape sheet available at Amazon or
elsewhere?

I'm not quite sure which shape(text callout) you were working with, need a
stencil and a name (visio version would help also). For the shapesheet

I have the same problem - no side handle to change the width of a text block when using "Side text callout" from the Callouts (US units) shape (not sure which stencil) in Vision 2007 (12.0.6536.5002) SP1 MSO (12.0.6545.5004). I can resize the Side box callout and the Side line callout, (as well as the Mid box callout and the Mid line callout, but not the Mid text callout).

Any help appreciated.
